Ann McDonough was born and raised in Dubuque County. She grew up in Asbury, Iowa along with 11 brothers and sisters. Her parents were the first to introduce her to the importance of community. She grew up learning you always helped your neighbors and your Church, you always watched out for your siblings, and you treated everyone with respect.
Ann is a small business owner. She and her husband, Peter Healey, have owned and operated Plane Art Designs for more than 17 years. Ann understands the crucial importance of staying within budget. As an employer she knows the weight of making tough financial decisions when it effects more than just her own family. She knows about working until the job is done.
Ann is an experienced lawyer. She has practiced both corporate and family law. She has been a prosecutor and a civil trial lawyer. She believes in public service and was the Managing Attorney of Iowa Legal Aid. It was during this time that Ann was responsible for ensuring fair legal representation throughout Northeast Iowa. Ann has a commitment to fairness and has served as a Mediator for both the University of Iowa and the City of Dubuque.
Ann is a champion for education. She has served as President of the Parent Teacher Association and as a member of the Senior High School Education Foundation. She is currently a Clarke University Trustee. She has taught as at Northeast Iowa Community College and Loras College. What she finds most rewarding is her time as a volunteer reader at Lincoln and Prescott Elementary.
Ann is always working to make our community stronger. As President of the James and Melita McDonough Charitable Foundation she works with many of county’s government and nonprofit organizations. She is a Co-Founder of The Red Basket Project, a nonprofit which provides feminine hygiene products to homeless and poor women and girls in our community. She is a member of 100+ Women Who Care and the Women’s Giving Circle.
The County Supervisors must be fair, respectful, and willing to listen. They also need to be leaders in the community looking to address issues that might otherwise be overlooked. Ann has the experience and skill to be Supervisor for Dubuque County.
